(CMR) 32-year-old Jovin Omar Fuentes (Berry) was allegedly gunned down on Friday evening shortly before 5:30 pm in a rental car by his one-time friend 28-year-old Javon Dixon in the vicinity of Gun Square Road in Bodden Town.
Eyewitnesses immediately know who both the victim and the alleged shooter were within minutes of the incident.
CMR received the first report of the deadly shooting at 5:29 pm when eyewitnesses shared that a man had been gunned down and EMT were performing CPR on the man who lay on the ground in front of a local convenience store. Early reports are that he had a pulse at the time that he was taken to the hospital but shortly after passed away from his injuries.
The shooter left the scene and was later apprehended by police several hours after the incident.
Street sources claim that a money dispute is at the heart of the dispute alleging that one was involved in selling numbers and may have been targetted by the other for a robbery. One person noted,
“He was looking for him all day”
His uncle, who was in the car at the time of the shooting, explained the sequence of events:
Police confirmed that on arriving at the scene, emergency services attended to a man who appeared to have gunshot injuries. The man was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.
His criminal history dates back to at least the age of 18 when he was found guilty of stealing two laptop computers from the Cayman Islands Government. He worked as a computer technician at the Glass House where he received 75 hours of community service for the theft.
Fuentes is no stranger to the law and was featured on CMR just two years ago after his involvement in a collision. The collision caused a fiery crash injuring multiple persons in Northward. This matter was still in court earlier this year:
Fuentes was a passenger in another serious car accident back in March 2015 when his then-girlfriend, Rowena Loveta Scott, 25 died. The accident happened in Spotts and there were allegations brought up in Coroner's Court that he was indirectly responsible for her death because they were arguing during the incident. However, the court eventually found she died by misadventure when no eyewitnesses to the alleged fight were located by the police.
He had also been acquitted in 2012 of possession of an imitation firearm after Justice Henderson found the sole Crown witness as less than credible.
The RCIPS are investigating the incident and detectives ask that if anyone was witness to the incident or has any information to please come forward and report it to the police. Information can be provided by calling, the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
