(CMR) A woman who reportedly tried to buy a baby from a customer shopping at a Walmart in Texas was arrested and charged after threatening the woman after she refused to sell her the baby.
According to CBS News, Rebecca Taylor allegedly approached a woman at a Walmart self-checkout aisle in Crockett, Texas, earlier this month and told her she wanted to buy her baby.
Taylor (49) “began commenting on her son’s blonde hair and blue eyes. She asked how much she could purchase him for. (The mom) tried to laugh this comment off, thinking Taylor was joking. Taylor told her that she had $250,000 in the car and she would pay that much for him. (The mom) told her no amount of money would do,” authorities stated.
Fearing for her family's safety, the woman reportedly waited for Taylor to leave the store before exiting. The shopper said Taylor then accosted her in the parking lot, began shouting, and raised the offer to $500,000.
Taylor allegedly also threatened the woman, saying she would take him anyway if she didn't sell the baby. The mother called authorities after Taylor finally left the parking lot.
Police arrested Taylor several days later. She faces charges related to the sale or purchase of a child, a third-degree felony, and if convicted, she faces up to 10 years in jail.
Taylor was released from Houston County Sheriff's Office custody after posting a $50,000 bond.
