(CMR) The Ministry of Education has expressed its condolences to the family of Paul Robinson after his sudden passing last weekend.
Originally from near Liverpool, England, the late Director of the Cayman Islands Public Library Service (CIPLS) relocated to the Cayman Islands in 2009. He worked for the Cayman Islands National Archive for four years before taking up a role at the Library Service in 2013.
Five years later, in 2018, Mr. Robinson was named Acting Director of the CIPLS and was later recruited to the position in 2019.
As Director, Mr. Robinson was responsible for managing the public library collection and providing library services to three islands through the main library in George Town and five branch libraries. His duties also included the management of all library staff, program initiatives, and facilities maintenance.
Commenting on Mr. Robinson's passing, Head of the Civil Service and Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson said, “On behalf of the entire Civil Service, my condolences go out to Mr. Robinson's family and to his colleagues in the Cayman Islands Public Library Service. He was a valued member of the Civil Service management team and brought passion and innovation as he led the Public Library. I am truly saddened by his untimely passing.”
Ministry of Education Chief Officer Cetonya Cacho added, “Paul was an affable person and a very valued member of our team. He was a strong and compassionate leader, and he will be greatly missed.”
“Mr. Robinson was deeply committed to providing community programs aimed at improving adult and children's literacy. He was also keen on incorporating technology in the delivery of library services and was especially passionate about the development of young Caymanian writers. He was truly an asset to the public library service, stated MoE Deputy Chief Officer Mr. Joel Francis.”
Describing Mr. Robinson as his Director, mentor and keen supporter, CIPLS Deputy Director Kevin Goring also expressed his grief at Mr. Robinson's untimely demise. “I am deeply saddened by Mr. Robinson's passing. Over the years, we developed a strong working relationship.
He was truly an inspiration to staff and colleagues as he worked tirelessly to maintain positive relationships with everyone and went the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction at all times. I admire his legacy and will endeavor to channel his positivity at the library for years to come.”
