(CMR) An elderly man attacked his wife and has left her fighting for her life this morning after a vicious attack last night at their home in Tropical Gardens, George Town.
CMR exclusive sources indicate that an 83-year-old man from George Town has “chopped up” his wife (74) after he demanded sex and she refused. The initial reports are that she may have lost her hand and also sustained head injuries in the attack and is said to be in critical condition at the local hospital. He then proceeded to wrap an electrical cord around his neck in an effort to harm himself after the incident.
CMR has been made aware of the identity of both parties but at this time we will not be disclosing this information. The victim and alleged attacker are from a well known local family. We understand he is in police custody.
The RCIPS have yet to make a statement but once they do this post will be updated accordingly.
POLICE UPDATE:
At about 11:45PM on Wednesday, 4 July, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched officers to a report of a serious assault at an address in Tropical Gardens, George Town. An elderly woman was assaulted by a man known to her and sustained multiple lacerations. Emergency personnel attended the scene and treated the woman, who was then transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. She has undergone surgery and remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
A man, age 83 of George Town, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH and attempted murder. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
