(CMR) Rapper DMX is in critical condition in hospital after a drug overdose at his home Friday night.
The rapper, 50, was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York, and is in the critical care unit.
Sources claimed the overdose triggered a heart attack and that DMX was in a vegetative state with minimal brain activity.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is one of the biggest rap stars to have emerged from the 1990s.
His first five albums, including the 1998 debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The rapper has also appeared in numerous films, including action thrillers Romeo Must Die (2000), Exit Wounds (2001), and Cradle 2 the Grave (2003).
DMX had previously spoken about his addiction to crack cocaine, which he said began when he was 14. He has been in and out of rehab over the years, the most recent time in 2019 when he checked himself in.
DMX last performed in July 2020, when he faced off with Snoop Dogg in a Verzuz battle which saw more than 500K viewers tune in.
