(CMR) Flow Cayman confirms that some of its customers in Bodden Town are currently experiencing service disruptions resulting from cuts to its fiber and copper network caused by the Caribbean Utilities Company Limited (CUC) over the weekend.
The company is working closely with CUC to restore services in the shortest possible timeframe.
Flow was in the process of updating Bodden Town’s remaining copper plant network to a high-speed fiber network to meet customers’ demands for better and faster broadband and internet experience when the incident occurred.
In July 2020, Flow reached out to CUC to seek the necessary permits for the placement of its fiber on CUC’s poles. As a result of the delays from CUC, and the increasing demands from customers for greater broadband speeds, accelerated due to COVID-19, Flow decided to proceed with its fiber rollout to address ongoing service concerns from the communities in the area.
Both CUC and DataLink raised issues concerning the safety of the state of their current network. Unfortunately, rather than address those concerns, DataLink took the action to remove Flow’s fiber cables from the poles in 14 sites which resulted in service disruptions to customers.
Flow has been in communication with OfReg about CUC's actions and has informed Ofreg of their efforts to rectify the situation with CUC.
They are currently working closely with CUC to safely repair and reconnect affected customers as well as working toward a timely resolution of this issue to bring their high-speed fiber network to the rest of the Cayman Islands.
Flow apologizes to customers for the inconvenience that this issue has caused.
