(CMR) The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice advising citizens not to travel to Barbados, which continues to see a significant rise in COVID-19 cases.
CDC advised that travelers should avoid all travel to Barbados because it may increase their chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.
In the CDC ranking system, countries at Level 4, the highest rank, are considered to have a very high level of COVID-19 infection.
Barbados has seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases since the start of 2021.
In December, the country had less than 500 cases of people with the coronavirus; as of Sunday afternoon, there were 1,341 cases of COVID-19 in Barbados. The country has had almost 1000 cases since the start of January.
Barbados had a major outbreak at Her Majesty’s Prisons, Dodds, with hundreds of inmates and over 70 wardens testing positive for the virus.
In the meantime, there are now reports that at least 50 members of the Royal Barbados Police Force canine unit are now in quarantine after one member of that team tested positive for the virus.
