(CMR) HE The Governor Martyn Roper is encouraging people to wait until it is their turn to get the vaccine. This message comes after a CMR article earlier today that highlighted how some persons, allegedly including visitors to our island, are getting vaccinated ahead of their scheduled time.
It has been revealed that in less than one week since the vaccination program began over 3,525 persons have already been vaccinated.
Clearly aimed at vaccine abuses he encourages people to remember that there is a limited supply worldwide.
Cayman received enough of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine for about 4,800 persons. It appears that the next batch may not be on the island until month-end.
In his Facebook post this afternoon he shared:
“Over 3000 people on our islands have now had a first dose of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine. A great start to our roll-out. We await confirmation from the UK of our next batch, hopefully before the end of the month.
Vaccine supply is limited all over the world. We are fortunate to be receiving supplies. Production is stepping up and the UK’s commitment to supplying the OTs remains firm. But limited supplies means we will get a proportionate amount of what the UK has available relative to our population. So we will have to remain patient.Globally over 15 million have now had a vaccine including 2.3m in the UK. Buckingham Palace announced that HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh also received the vaccine at the weekend. The vaccines are safe, rigorously tested and are now being rolled out to millions across the world. This is our way out of the pandemic. It is the only way to protect yourself and particularly the elderly and vulnerable in the community. Please get yours when invited to do so.”
