(CMR) Several Cayman Brac travelers have now tested positive for Covid-19 it was announced today.
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, reports that 344 COVID-19 tests have been carried out since this was last reported on Wednesday, 9 December 2020. Six were positive including two from Cayman Brac.
The individuals are asymptomatic travelers who returned positive test results following routine screening. They will remain in isolation until considered recovered.
The number of people in isolation, either at a government facility or in their homes as required by the Medical Officer of Health, is 1,562.
This came on the heel of CMR requesting additional information from the government on how Cayman Brac home quarantining has been working.
It has been confirmed that four flights with overseas travelers have been permitted to enter Cayman Brac including:
- November 20 – 25 travelers to Cayman Brac with 8 traveling to Little Cayman
- November 30 – 4 travelers to Cayman Brac
- December 4 – 12 travelers to Cayman Brac
- December 7 – 6 travelers to Cayman Brac with 2 traveling to Little Cayman
The first and last fight was only for travelers who came off the Miami flight. January 4 is the next scheduled sister island flight that would allow travelers in.
Travelers on the November 20 flight have been off-boarded having completed their required period of quarantine. Currently, there are 20 travelers in quarantine in Cayman Brac and 2 in Little Cayman. The route is that the flight lands in Cayman Brac before coming to Grand Cayman. MIA – CYB – GCM.
On the Brac travelers go through the same process that they do on Grand Cayman including PCR testing and being fitted with a monitoring device and onboarded onto the Quarantine at Residence program. PCR tests can now be processed in Cayman Brac.
If they are tested positive they are subjected to the same protocol as Grand Cayman, they remain in quarantine and are monitored by the Public Health nurse in Cayman Brac and where necessary they are supported by Public Health nurses in Grand Cayman.
There are two CBC Officers who are assigned full time to the Travel Cayman program in Cayman Brac. They are supported, where necessary, by the RCIPS.
In Little Cayman, the District Officer and the Public Health Nurse monitor those in quarantine and are supported by the RCIPS where necessary.
