(CMR) A five-year-old Jamaican boy, who is the victim of a vicious dog attack which took place over the weekend, left the island on Friday (November 20) for the United States.
The trip was organized by a group of Jamaicans abroad who raised over 100,000 USD to assist the boy in getting treatment.
Mickele Allen is scheduled to have his surgical procedure on Saturday at the Montefiore Hospital in New York.
One of the organizers of the boy's trip revealed that Allen needs treatment, in order to avoid a life threatening injury, which is not currently available in Jamaica.
According to Andrew McGlone, the hardest part was not raising the money for the surgery but was securing travel documents for the boy and his mother, who were without passports up until Thursday.
“It was really because the mother and child did not have passports and the process of getting passports and trying to get the US visa was just impossible for them ,” said McGlone.
Allen was attacked by approximately dogs in his St D'Acre, St Ann community on Sunday (November 17).
The boy’s injuries were described as so severe that you could see the “crown of his head”.
