(CMR) The governor became the first governor to visit the Lighthouse School for special needs children and enjoy a tour of the facility.
HE The Governor spent some of his day at the Lighthouse School today where he performed on his steel pans for a special concert to mark Autism Awareness Day, Cerebral Palsy Day and Down Syndrome month.
He enjoyed performing as school students sang, danced and read poetry. Along with Savannah Primary School, the Buddho Medicine Group and Earl La Pierre, Glen Inanga and the governor entertained the audience with music.
Minister O’Connor Connolly gave welcome remarks. Councillors Barbara Conolly and David Wright also attended and some of the students received special awards and certificates. He was pleased to meet Carolyn Powell who has been instrumental as the sign language interpreter at the Covid press conferences.
He shared on his social media page:
“The diverse range of disabilities the school caters for means a wide variety of equipment and expertise is needed. It was great to see the children so happy and participating in lots of different activities but also learning meaningful skills to help them move forward. I am full of respect for the incredible job the teachers and staff do day in day out.”
