(CMR) A 29-year-old Caymanian was arrested and charged after a quantity of ganja was found in a food box he received from Canada.
The Customs & Border Control Service (CBC) in a release said that a shipment of assorted food items which had arrived in Cayman was selected for inspection by a CBC officer.
Upon inspection, agents discovered15 pounds of ganja inside cans labelled as soup.
The 29 year old Caymanian male was arrested on September 9 for suspicion of importation of ganja in the shipment of food items from Canada.
“This most recent seizure of drugs is another example of the efficacy of our strategy to transition from the traditional gatekeepers approach to an intelligence-led, risk management methodology,” said Director of the CBC Charles Clifford
Clifford used the occasion to applaud his officers for their diligence and consistency in enforcing our laws.
“This remains an active investigation which could result in further arrests,” added Clifford.
