(CMR) Commissioner of Police Derek Bryne said that there are tensions emerging among rival gangs, that have resulted in two violent incidents in the West Bay policing district.
The police commissioner made the shocking revelation while speaking at the COVID-19 daily press briefing on Thursday (May 7).
According to the commissioner, there was a shooting incident in West Bay on Wednesday night.
“There are some gang tension emerging in the West Bay policing district which manifested in a reported shooting incident last night. No persons were injured,” said Bryne
He also noted the rising tensions have also resulted in a serious assault involving the use of a machete on Thursday morning; in which there was a serious hand injury and one person brought to hospital.
Bryne also shared that there had been a recent uptick in burglaries in recent days.
“Crime has not gone away but has significantly reduced over the past six weeks,” added Bryne.
