(CMR) Former principal of the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre, Robin Kyne, has been banned from teaching for life in the UK for having a sexual relationship with one of his ex-pupils in 2007 at the then Regent College.
The student came forward about their relationship in 2019 while Kyne worked for the Leicester City Council in 2019. This was after his stint with the CIFEC. Checks made by CMR revealed Kyne served as principal from 2012 to 2014; however, it is not clear how long he was in the Cayman Islands.
Reports are that the start of the personal contact between Kyne, who was then a drama teacher and assistant principal, and the student began with inappropriate behaviour during drama lessons at the college.
Kyne's case was brought to a panel at the Teaching Regulation Agency in the UK, where the decision was made to ban him from teaching for life. The panel heard how Kyne got the student's contact information while at school, saying he wanted students' numbers to contact them about homework.
The former student said while attending college, Kyne did not text her regularly, but when he did, it was not about homework. After she left the college, the contact increased, and “very quickly became graphic and sexual in nature.”
The panel received 467 pages of messages exchanged between the pupil and Kyne on Facebook between July 5, 2007, and January 16, 2010. Some of the messages sent on social media include some made in August 2007, shortly after the pupil had left the college.
