“I am prepared to donate between $5,000-$10,000 to CMR for their generosity and for the removal of the post …”
Rashad Jervis
(CMR) Rashad Jervis, an East End man who was sued last year for not paying his child's school fees at a private school on the island, has turned to extortion-style tactics, including offering CMR a sum of money to remove the article about him.
Last year, Montessori Del Sol filed a lawsuit against Jerivs, who failed to pay outstanding school fees of CI$5,490 for a former student of the institution. CMR's investigations soon revealed Jervis owed several people.
Jervis has tried several schemes since the article was first posted, including trying to convince CMR content manager Sandy Hill to accept a bribe from him once he sued DMS management. In a rather lengthy email from October, Jervis claimed to know that some information provided to Hill came from an employee at Saxon Insurance and felt confident he could win a law against their parent company, DMS.
He then promised that if Hill took the content down, he would be willing to compensate her for her “generosity and for the removal of the post.” He also claimed that it would look good to issue a public apology for “unknowingly breaching my personal data.” This claim comes despite his complaint to the Ombudsman's office not gaining any traction.
Hill communicated with Jervis and instructed him to cease any further contact.
“I am far from a bad person”
Claiming to be in a temporary financial rut, Jervis bragged about his accounting credentials, including a degree from the University of Cambridge. Speaking highly of himself, Jervis attacks several family members, including a cousin and aunt, claiming that his aunt is a narcissist. He admitted to asking her for money in February and also in 2018.
Court papers showed that Montessori del Sol is not the only one that has sued Jervis. In fact, his former employer, HLB Berman Fisher, a local accounting firm, sued him last year for over US$8,000 owed to them. Additionally, he owed a sum of over $5,000 to Cost U Less.
Despite all of this, Jervis claims to have significant equity in a property and was sitting on a $695,000 loan facility.
He has now turned to another local media house using a fake name and fake email address, asking if they would publish a story about his non-existent lawsuit against Hill for a fee.
When contacted, CMR confirmed that no lawsuit had been filed against them and that they were not familiar with the name Zaheir Solvis. In that correspondence, he claimed that a public relations company offered to send out a 400-word press statement for him for $2,000.
Claiming to have no issue with paying that amount, he inquired how much the newspaper would charge him.
After that gimmick did not work, he then resorted to contracting DMS with a letter claiming that his letter should not be shared with Hill and that he wanted to sue them if they would not settle with him.
No lawsuit has yet been filed by Jervis, and it appears that he has left the jurisdiction and now resides in the UK.
