(CMR) Montessori Del Sol filed a lawsuit against a parent who failed to pay outstanding school fees of CI$5,490 for a former student of the institution.
According to court documents filed last month, Rashad Raheem Jervis signed a tuition enrollment contract with the school on June 8, 2022, committing to pay monthly installments for his child's enrollment for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Jervis' child attended the school full-time from September 2, 2022, including holiday camps, afterschool care, and clubs, until the child's enrollment ceased on February 28, 2023.
However, he made only 4 payments from September 30 to October 21, 2022, and never made any more payments which resulted in a debt of $5,490.
According to the lawsuit filed, despite repeat requests for additional payments and extensions, no payments were forthcoming from Jervis. As a result, the child's enrollment privileges were revoked by Montessori Del Sol on February 28, 2023.
Despite this, the school said it had not been able to collect the outstanding money owed. Based on the lawsuit, Jervis had the option to contest or request more time to pay the amount.
Speaking to CMR, several sources revealed that Jervis has a history of non-payment of debt and is often found borrowing money that he does not pay back. He has purchased a luxury vehicle and defaulted on both the loan and car insurance. They shared the following observation:
“His chest high, boy. Don't lend him anything, you'll never see it again, no matter how much interest he claims he will repay.”
