(CMR) Two clients are suing local law firm Nelsons Attorneys-at-Law Limited for unauthorized work performed, misrepresentation of their billing, and illegally withholding funds.
Melko Dobroslavic and Ronalee Murray-Dobroslavic filed the lawsuit in the Summary Court last week, 17 November, making a claim for $5,357.07.
According to court documents, the two said they paid a retainer of US$10,000 to Nelsons and were billed for US$7687.68. However, the law firm has withheld a balance of US$2,312.32 without any explanation. The plaintiffs also claimed they were billed for unauthorized work in the sum of $3044.75.
According to court documents, Nelsons misrepresented the legal works the clients requested and stated that they would bill the clients at the end of each month; however, this was not done.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to double the amount claimed in its final decision as punishment for the law firm's illegal actions and to order that the defendants pay all the plaintiffs' legal fees. They are also asking that the court order that the money be paid within seven days.
