(CMR) A campaign has been launched in honor of abused dog Wilbur to get lawmakers to change animal welfare laws to ensure stricter enforcement against people who abuse animals.
Wilbur died several weeks after he was rescued in a very terrible condition in Prospect. Despite medical treatment, the dog did not recuperate.
Concerned citizens are trying to highlight the atrocities animals have to endure here in the Cayman Islands, with very few prosecutions around animal abuse.
Under the theme, “Justice for Wilbur”, people are being encouraged to send letters to their political representatives with their concerns and their desire for animal welfare laws to be changed.
There are also plans for an online petition to encourage Parliamentarians to change the laws.
Over the years, there have been several cases of animal abuse in the Cayman Islands; however, not many have been prosecuted. Those who have been prosecuted usually pay a fine.
