UPDATE: The victim in the water-related death, which occurred yesterday, 28 August, has now been positively identified by a family member.  He is 21-year-old Rovyn Jerone Cameron, a Jamaican national residing in the Cayman Islands. The RCIPS thanks the public for their assistance in this matter.

(CMR) Police are seeking the public's help to identify a man who died in a water-related incident while swimming near Spotts Beach on Monday, 28 August.

Reports are that shortly after 4:40 pm yesterday, 28 August, officers responded to a report of a person in distress in the waters off Spotts Beach. It was reported that a man had entered the water and swam away from shore.

He appeared to experience difficulties and lost consciousness and was assisted from the water by members of the public, who began to administer CPR. Emergency services attended the location and the man was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

The RCIPS said it has been conducting inquiries to establish the identity of the deceased man; however, those inquiries have so far been unsuccessful.

As such, the RCIPS is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the man. He is described as being of slim build, weighing about 200-210lbs, and about 6’1” in height. He is of brown complexion, with brown low-cut hair, and was wearing a pair of blue jeans with a black belt and a green t-shirt with the word “Heineken” at the time of the incident. The male also has an injury on his left thumb, which appears to be recent and required stitches.

If the description of the deceased fits the identity of anyone they know or who has any other information regarding the incident, persons are asked to contact the RCIPS at 949-4222, ex. 2908.

Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS via their Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or via their website.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Cayman Crime Stoppers website.
