(CMR) Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) officer Erica N. Rockett-McBean will be appointed as a Midshipman (MID) and a junior member of the leadership and management team in the CICG after successfully completing the required training.
The CICG said that on Friday, 18th August 2023, Officer Cadet (O/Cadet) E. N. Rockett-McBean was among 58 O/Cadets to successfully complete the 44-week Initial Officer Training Programme (IOTP) offered by the Caribbean Military Academy (CMA) under the direction of the staff from the Directorate of Training and Doctrine of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Five partner nations, including the Cayman Islands, were represented in this course. The other nations were Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and Uganda.
During this 44-week course, O/Cdt Rockett-McBean was exposed to the various disciplines essential to her performance as an Officer in the CICG. As the course is structured after the Royal Military Academy (RMA) Sandhurst, the course was split into three (3) segments: junior term, intermediate term, and senior term.
Having successfully completed her initial officer training, Rockett-McBean will be appointed as a Midshipman (MID) in the CICG, where she will begin her new role as a junior member of the leadership and management team while continuing to develop her technical knowledge and practical experience in the maritime operational environment.
Another CICG officer recently graduated from the training institution based in Jamaica.
