(CMR) The Alzheimer's and Dementia Association of the Cayman Islands (“ADACI”) will hold its annual collection drive in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Fire Service called “Fill the Boot for Alzheimer's,” taking place on Wednesday, June 21st, also known as the Longest Day.
The Longest Day serves as a national call to action day for Alzheimer’s associations, along with raising awareness and funds.
“Fill the Boot for Alzheimer’s” is a community-driven initiative aimed at spreading awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias while raising funds to support individuals and families affected by these conditions. Volunteers from ADACI will work alongside the Fire Service to collect donations from generous community members.
In addition to collecting funds, dedicated volunteers will distribute informational flyers about ADACI and the vital services it provides to the local community. ADACI is encouraging the community to contribute whatever they can as they pass the Fire Fighters, as every cent counts in making a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
The funds raised during this event will go towards the purchase of hurricane staples and care products for households where an individual with Alzheimer’s or any other form of dementia is in need. ADACI will collaborate with the Department of Children and Family Services to identify these individuals.
With the rising cost of living in the Cayman Islands, many family caregivers face challenges in affording essential care products, which can often exceed CI$100.00 per week. By donating to “Fill the Boot for Alzheimer’s” community members can directly contribute to help in easing the financial burden of some of these caregivers.
The event will take place on Edward Street, between Starbucks and the Court House, starting at 11:45 a.m to 2 p.m. Persons passing by are encouraged to take selfies with the Fire Fighters on site and share their photos on social media using the hashtag #FillTheBootForAlzheimers.
ADACI and the Cayman Islands Fire Service extend their deepest gratitude to the community for their continuous support in creating a more compassionate and understanding community for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
