(CMR) A vehicle thief abandoned a stolen vehicle on the roadway on Elgin Avenue, near the Central Police Station, shortly after 4:00 am today, May 22. Police have confirmed that the rental vehicle was recovered after the driver fled the vehicle on foot. The vehicle sustained some damage to the back lift gate and side panel.
The white Honda BR-V, registration #214 047, was reported stolen on Saturday morning, May 20, after being taken around 3:50 am. The 2023 Honda BR-V was a rental that was taken from Discovery Point on West Bay Road. CMR sources revealed the man broke into several condos and removed items. In this particular instance, he took the keys and approached the vehicle before driving off in it.
The recovered vehicle is being forensically processed as investigations into the theft of the vehicle, and the preceding burglary, continue.
In related news, another rental vehicle for the same company was vandalized after a tourist reported that the soft top on the Jeep was cut open in an attempted theft. The incident took place in East End outside Tukka restaurant yesterday evening between 6:00-7:30 pm. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
