(CMR) A woman was attacked Saturday evening as she parked outside a residence in Prospect during a robbery attempt. Authorities revealed that she was sitting in her car when a lone assailant attacked her, causing facial injuries. Her injuries required treatment at the local hospital.
Police said they responded to a report of an assault between 9:00 PM and 9:40 PM outside an address in the Prospect area. The woman had just parked outside the address when her vehicle was approached by an unknown man who opened her car door and attempted to rob her. A struggle ensued, during which the man struck her in the face, the woman fought back, and the suspect then fled the location on foot.
Emergency services attended the location, and the woman was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital to be treated for her injuries and subsequently discharged.
The suspect is described as being of dark complexion and was wearing a dark mask and dark clothing.
During last week's Prospect community meeting, the police reassured the community that a new community police officer would be helping the community to feel safer. MP Sabrina Turner introduced PC Michael Lazzari, who was reassigned from Cayman Brac.
He shared that he was already able to gain valuable feedback through patrols and speaking with various community stakeholders. The new beat officer further noted that he had recognized some areas of concern to improve the quality of life for the residents in the surrounding communities.
The matter is currently under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen anything/anyone suspicious in the area between 9:00 PM and 9:45 PM is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222.
