(CMR) The Department of Environmental Health is calling on food business operators and food handlers to register for the upcoming Food Hygiene training as classes resume on 14 September 2022.
Training sessions will be held on Wednesdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Grand Cayman. However, training days may differ somewhat for the Sister Islands.
“Food Safety is priority to protect members of the public from foodborne diseases or harm related to food consumption. Members of the food industry are reminded that DEH requires all personnel handling food to be trained and certified. All food-handling personnel, who have not yet taken one of these training courses or those needing to update their certification, should register to attend,” said DEH Director Richard Simms.
The one-day Basic Food Handlers’ training is geared at equipping food-handling personnel with pertinent knowledge of handling, preparing, and delivering food safely, thereby preventing consumers from contracting foodborne illness and disease.
At the end of the course, food handlers will have the knowledge to prevent foodborne illness and the spread of disease. Certification is valid for three years, and persons who want to continue as food handlers must renew their certification once it expires.
To register, please contact the DEH at 949-6696 or via email at [email protected]. A registration cost of $15 per person to cover all materials and fees must be paid at DEH headquarters, located at 580 North Sound Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Interested persons on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are asked to call 948-2321 to make arrangements. Participants registered who already paid for the course will be given priority.
