(CMR) The Ministry of Home Affairs has expressed regret at the passing of Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service Officer Kashwayne McKenzie, who died on Sunday.
The Ministry, in a release, said Mr. McKenzie was a jovial and pleasant member of the HMCIPS team and garnered equal respect from his fellow officers and the inmates he interacted with daily.
Director of Prisons Mr. Daniel Greaves said the loss of an intelligent young officer has been difficult for his team.
“Kashwayne had great respect for his role, for his peers and superiors. He is already greatly missed within the Service and his memory will be cherished by all,” he added.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of a bright, young Caymanian who was making strides in our honorable prison service. On behalf of Cabinet and the entire Ministry of Home Affairs, I offer heartfelt condolences to Mr. McKenzie’s family, friends, and loved ones at this time,” stated Minister for Home Affairs Hon. Sabrina Turner.
Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson also offered his condolences on behalf of the Civil Service.
“Mr. McKenzie’s reputation as being a kind and bright young member of our Uniformed Services speaks to his character. This is indeed a tragic and untimely loss for the Civil Service, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service,” said Mr. Manderson.
