(CMR) Police have confirmed that the driver of a motorcycle died after he lost control of his black Suzuki motorcycle at the Parkers Raceway in Bodden Town Sunday afternoon, 28 August. A 28-year-old father of four, Kashwayne McKenzie, was critically injured as he crossed the finish line and lost control of his bike.
It was reported that sometime after 2 pm, the motorcyclist was participating in vehicular sporting activities at the Parkers Raceway when he lost control of his motorcycle and fell from the vehicle. Eyewitnesses said he landed some 70 feet from the bike.
Eyewitnesses shared with CMR that a local physician was on location and attempted to provide some assistance. They overheard him stating to the emergency personnel that they should hurry because after examining his eyes, he felt he had internal bleeding in his brain.
Police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to the location. The Cayman Islands Fire Service attended the location to assist with the wreckage and ensure the scene was safe for other emergency personnel. The man was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
His mother was sadly waiting at the hospital for his arrival and visitors to the ER observed that EMS were giving him CPR as they brought him into the facility.
The police are investigating the incident, and investigators are encouraging witnesses to the incident to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
Alternatively, members of the public may submit tips through the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or via their website.
McKenzie was a prison officer and race enthusiast who, ironically, was enjoying his last day of vacation.
