(CMR) Hon. Benson O. Ebanks, OBE, an iconic statesman from West Bay and a long-term resident of Boltins Ave. in Town Hall Crescent, has died. Mr. Ebanks (87) passed away on Tuesday, 29 March.
Mr. Benson was a long-standing MLA (now MP), Member of EXCO (now Minister) for Education, and a Leader of Government Business (now Premier).
He was also a founding member of Cayman National Bank and a former chairman. Mr. Ebanks served as chairman of the board for 36 years from the company’s inception in 1974.
He was also the first Chamber of Commerce president.
During his business, professional, and political career Mr. Ebanks enjoyed many achievements and milestones for the people of the Cayman Islands.
Over the last few years, Mr. Ebanks became immobile and stayed at home for a number of years. He had slowed down quite a bit after the passing of his dear wife, Mrs. Bessie, a few years ago.
Mr. Ebanks is remembered as a kind businessman who influenced the lives of many in whatever capacity he held, including as a businessman.
