(CMR) The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) has transitioned to full online teaching and learning using Microsoft Teams after it was revealed that they have “a small number” of positive COVID-19 cases in their student population.
The student body was notified of the change in learning module beginning Thursday, November 11. Their students were informed that:
“In the best interests of student and staff safety, the campuses of the university will move to full online teaching and learning … all academic courses will be held remotely for the remainder of the semester.”
Student services will also move online, although limited in-person services, including the testing centre, bookstore, library, admissions and registration, finance and Student Life services, will remain available on an appointment-only basis. Students with an appointment will be allowed on campus. Students are instructed to access the online portal to book any appointments they may need.
Any students who have been in classrooms where a fellow student has tested positive will be notified by the Office of the Provost. The office will provide instructions on the necessary safety protocols these students should follow. Any updates will be announced through your UCCI email account, so please check your account regularly.
Students are still required to attend class, albeit online, and should expect to receive direction from their instructors on how to access their courses via Microsoft Teams. All assignments must be submitted online and all exams, including final exams, will be conducted online. Students who do not have access to the internet at home should contact Student Life at 623-0530.
