(CMR) People traveling to Bermuda can have their COVID-19 prescreening test done easily by ordering a Costco test kit.
The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) and the Government of Bermuda recently announced that the country was the first international destination to partner with Costco to use PCR saliva screening as an acceptable pre-arrival test.
The self-administered PCR saliva test managed by Costco Pharmacy and AZOVA Health retails for $140.
Consumers, who are expected to take the test under video observation, will receive results through the HIPAA-secure AZOVA app within 12 to 48 hours of the lab receiving the kit.
Glenn Jones, BTA Interim CEO, said:
“We believe this marks a major step forward in facilitating access to pre-travel testing required for Bermuda visitors — it will be offered across the US, including major tourism markets with direct air service to the island. The prospect for travel is still difficult for many. Every day we’re working to make it a little easier.”
Before the end of 2020, the tests will be available for purchase at over 100 Costco locations, with the first stocks available in New York and Boston-area superstores. Pharmacists at select Costco pharmacies will also observe shoppers self-administering the COVID-19 tests to streamline the process.
Bermuda Health Minister Kim Wilson said the easy access to prescreening kits was great news for visitors and residents. She said,
“Ensuring timely access to pre-arrival testing such as this approved PCR saliva test under observation is a huge gain for Bermuda.”
