(CMR) As the political landscape starts to get busy with Cayman inching closer to the May 2021 general election the rumor mill is full of conjecture and alliances. Some are proving to not hold much water according to sources.
However, the Progressives have categorically denied that retired politician Kurt Tibbetts will be seeking political office again in George Town Central or anywhere else for that matter.
The rumor in circulation is that the PPM is desperate to remove the very popular freshmen politician and has not yet fielded anyone who they believe could successfully beat him.
However, both the PPM leadership and Tibbetts denied these rumors with one well-placed sourced sharing that “I don't think KT has any continuing interesting in politics at that level”.
However, it was shared that Kurt Tibbetts believes that despite retiring from politics in 2017 he could make a successful reboot of his political career. The 66-year-old retiree speaking exclusively to CMR confirmed that has been enjoying his retirement from active politics “at my own pace nowadays”.
The 25-year political veteran was first elected in 1992 and served twice as Leader of Government Business during that time and also the first leader of the People's Progressive Party. He handed the reins over to Alden McLaughlin before his retirement.
He also noted that he “continues to serve his community as best he can whenever he can.”
In other political news, CMR will be announcing shortly that the race for Newlands is heating up with a former civil servant reportedly dropping his hat in the ring for that electoral district – bringing the number of likely candidates to at least four.
George Town Central remains one of several districts that at this stage may go unchallenged.
