“Walkers will follow and support Government policy on this issue and we will adhere to the best medical advice in relation to vaccination and safeguarding our office. Over 400 people a day come and go from this building. Up until now, we have had the luxury of not having to consider the risk of Coivd in the community. and how that may impact how we use this building.”
Tim Buckley, Walkers Managing Partner
(CMR) Leading international law firm Walkers has sent correspondence to its 400 employees Wednesday morning laying out their covid vaccination policy ahead of the planned re-opening on the country in October. In an email sent to all staff the firm's managing partner shared that with the bordering reopening there is an anticipation of an increased risk of a community outbreak of Covid 19.
The firm has indicated that from October 14 all staff that enters the building will have to provide human resources with proof of vaccination or will be required to wear a mask and provide HR with a weekly negative PCR test.
They share that this is ahead of the September 9 deadline for people in Cayman to get the first shot ahead of the planned October reopening. Sharing “it's crucial we act now” they provide a link for staff to read the policy in detail along with instructions on how to comply with the requirements. They shared:
“We want to stress to you all that each person's decisions regarding vaccination is personal to them and we ask that everyone respect that position and allow each other to make their own decisions.”
The firm's managing partner Tim Buckley noted that they are following “expert advice and government policy to seek to create the safest way to protect our people and their families as a whole” and that the policy applies to anyone entering the building including all visitors, suppliers, vendors and delivery persons.
They have also taken the additional step of arranging for “a health expert” to come to their offices and provide facts on vaccinations and answer any questions that employees may have. A date has not yet been set for this event.
They will also be working on a policy for the building which operates at times as a hurricane shelter.
