(CMR) At least two local financial institutions say they will be extending in-branch banking hours come Monday (May 4).

The extended hours come as Premier Alden McLaughlin on Friday (May 1) announced a repeal of an older shelter-in-place provision, noting that a new similar measure had been passed by the cabinet and will remain in effect for 14 days.

The new provision, the Premier said allows for remittance agencies to open to the public and operate during the hours of 6:00 a.m. through to 7:00 p.m.; while retail banks, building societies, and credit unions are allowed to open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Butterfield Bank has said that its 12 Albert Panton Street location, would now be open from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Upon Government advice and in an effort to reduce the amount of people in the Bank, we have adopted the first letter of your last name alphabetical restrictions,” said Butterfield on Facebook.

Butterfield noted that individuals with last names A through K would be served on Mondays and Wednesdays while A through Z would be served Tuesdays and Thursdays. All customers irrespective of last name can access the bank on Fridays.

Butterfield further noted that its other locations including, Midtown Plaza, Governors Square, and Camana Bay Banking Centres remain closed and their Saturday banking service remains suspended.

Similarly, CICSA Co-op Credit Union on Saturday announced new hours for it Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac locations come Monday.

According to the CICSA its branch on Grand Cayman will now be open from 9:00 a.m. through to 3:00 p.m. Monday and Friday.

The institution’s Cayman Brac branch will open from 9:00 a.m. through to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. through to 3:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

“We would like to remind members that while we’ve expanded our hours of operation, we continue to comply with government regulations to manage the spread of COVID-19 virus,” said the credit union in a release.

“This includes social/physical distancing and sanitation protocols, limiting the number of Members in the branch, and hand sanitizing when entering the lobby. We also strongly encourage Members visiting the branches to wear a mask,” added the credit union.
