Dear CMR:
I am a constant follower of your page. I just want to clarify your post regarding US visa applications in Jamaica. Can we do US visa renewals at the Jamaica Consulate?
Dear CMR fan,
The Jamaica Consulate does not accept visa applications on behalf of the US Embassy in Jamaica; however, the Consulate has indicated that it can assist individuals with the online application process, which many find quite complicated or confusing.
The Consulate said the availability of visa appointment dates in 2024 is a reflection of how busy or backed up they are. However, it explained that persons could complete the online application and payment process and monitor the site should an earlier appointment date becomes available, which occasionally happens due to cancellations.
In order to manage the backlog, the US Embassy has made allowances for persons who have been issued a maximum entry visa as an adult and whose fingerprints are already in the system to complete the application and payment process online and to send all the required documents including passports to the Embassy via courier without having to make a personal appearance.
However, the Consulate pointed out that a recent advisory states that the authorization to send the documents will be placed in a virtual queue. The applicants would then be advised by the Embassy when to send the documents, which means delays can be expected since many persons are utilizing this method.
