(CMR) Ronnie Rodney Ebanks (53), a West Bay serial sexual predator was sentenced to two years imprisonment on Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Hernandez. He was caught doing lewd acts in public close to children playing on the beach in January and this is his first conviction for sexual offenses.
He also had his sexual prevention harm order extended for a further seven years for breaching that as well. The order includes a ban on Ebanks ever entering any residential premises after dark without explicit invitation and ensures close supervision of his behavior after his release. After this latest offense, he will also be restricted to be anywhere in the vicinity of children.
At the time he claimed that he had “lost his wallet”:
The revelation of his sentence details was addressed on Wednesday afternoon at the RCIPS's Child Safeguarding Panel discussion. Ebanks featured in the discussion about how effective the monitoring of offenders released on sexual prevention orders really is. The police confirmed that a breach of an existing order is an offense and the courts are able to extend the order for a further seven years.
Ebanks was originally arrested after a video went viral of a parent chasing him away from the scene of the incident where he was observed pleasuring himself while watching children on a stretch of West Bay public beach. He eventually pleaded guilty earlier in the year to criminal trespassing and publicly doing an indecent act.
Ebanks has an extensive history of sexual offenses dating back years and was the first offender that had a sexual protection harm order issued against him. He had previously been sentenced to three prior sexual offenses against women. In 2017 Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop sentenced him to six years in jail for entering the apartment of a woman and sexually assaulting her.
The court heard that he is likely to re-offend yet again.
