(CMR) A man is being charged with assaulting police after an incident in West Bay early Saturday morning. Omar Antonio Pineda Banegas (32) of Bodden Town has been charged and is now facing 6 charges including assaulting a police officer.
Reports shortly before 2:30 a.m on Saturday, 11 August, officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the vicinity of Boatswain Bay Road, West Bay, where a Toyota 4Runner had exited the roadway.
Officers arrived and spoke to a man who identified himself as the driver of the vehicle. He appeared unsteady on his feet and showed other signs of intoxication. When asked to provide his driver’s license he stated that he did not have one. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and while being placed in the police vehicle he began to act in an aggressive manner, kicking one of the officers. He was taken into custody and breath tested, with a reading of 0.195%. It was later determined that he had been driving the vehicle without permission.
Banegas has now been formally charged with Taking a Conveyance Without Consent, Driving Without Being Licensed or Authorized, Driving Whilst Over the Prescribed Limit, Assaulting a Police Officer, and Careless Driving. He appeared in court this morning.
