(CMR) Dart has taken immediate remediation action at the Royal Palms property as the sea wall has collapsed, causing additional damage to the property. Initial cleanup exercises have started and are expected to be completed within one to two weeks, subject to the weather conditions.
Dart, the owner of the Royal Palms Property, said the erosion of the beach has resulted in beachfront structures on the property being damaged; as a result, emergency work is needed.
Gary Gibbs, Senior Vice President, Construction and Development at Dart, explained that since Hurricane Ian's sea surges exacerbated erosion on the southern end of Seven Mile Beach and damaged beachfront structures, Dart has been working with governmental authorities on remediation of the westernmost structures on the Royal Palms property.
“In collaboration with the Department of the Environment and the Department of Planning, we have developed a plan for careful cleanup of debris and stabilization of structures. This plan was refined following a site evaluation of current conditions on 23 November with consulting engineers and representatives from DoE,” Mr. Gibbs stated.
He said the approved methodology employs strategies to ensure public safety and screens to contain silt and protect the marine environment.
“We will closely monitor weather and turbidity and will follow guidelines provided by the DoE team during both its detailed review process and following onsite inspections. With favorable conditions, we estimate completion of the initial cleanup in approximately one to two weeks,” Mr. Gibbs added.
