(CMR) As of 1 March, Carnival Cruise Line will make masks optional for its guests after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its warnings for cruise ships, the company said.
The company said that masks would be recommended but not required. “There may, however, be certain venues and events where masks will be required,” Carnival said in a statement.
Carnival will also offer more flexibility in pre-cruise testing requirements, allowing children under 5 to sail without any need for vaccine or exemption.
The ease in restriction comes as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention downgraded their risk level for traveling on a cruise ship from level 4 to level 3.
CDC spokesperson Caitlin Shockey told USA Today that the upgraded guidance was meant to be an easing of rules for vaccinated travelers and was in response to a decrease in the latest surge of COVID-19 cases on cruise ships.
