(CMR) The National Hurricane Centre on Wednesday (July 22) predicted that tropical storm Gonzalo will become a hurricane by Thursday.
The NHC made the revelation just hours after the system formerly referred to as tropical storm seven started moving west at a speed of 12 mph.
In the space of a matter of hours, the system picked up speed and has continued to strengthen in rather short space of time.
According to an 11:00 am advisory from the NHC, Gonzalo has produced a large area of disorganized showers
and thunderstorms over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, central and southern Florida, and western Cuba.
The NHC anticipates the gradual strengthening of this system as it continues to moves west-northwestward.
Currently, there are no warnings in effect for this system, however, those in the Leeward islands are urged to exercise caution
