(CMR) The Cayman Islands has confirmed four additional positive cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number now to 12 infected persons. The premier has now decided to implement an alphabetical system for the grocery stores that should curtail the number of persons who are attempting to access those essential locations at once.
All of the latest results have come from persons who travel connections with two having traveled themselves and two persons having contact with others close to them who have traveled. In total 207 persons have been tested. Infected persons range in age from 21-83 years of age. Four of those had underlying health conditions.
The Premier announced a new system to elevate the pressure and crowds off the local grocery stores which were noticeable yesterday with long lines and congestion. This immediately caused concerns with the government of the ability to be able to maintain the recommended social distancing of six feet.
The following breakdown which begins tomorrow, Monday, March 30, 2020, should be noted by all on Grand Cayman:
- Adults with the last name beginning in A through K will be allowed to enter supermarkets in order to shop for essential goods on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
- Adults with the last name beginning in L through Z will be allowed to enter supermarkets in order to shop for essential goods on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
It is recommended that only one member of your household attend supermarkets in order to shop for your family. The premier strongly discourages taking children to the supermarkets when grocery shopping wherever possible.
