(CMR) The Health Services Authority (HSA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Vinton Douglas as Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) effective January 1, 2024.
His responsibilities include oversight of Primary Healthcare, Corporate Services, Infection Control, Quality & Risk, Patient Services, Medical Records, Information Technology, Infrastructure, and Support Services within the Authority.
Dr. Vinton Douglas has been on the senior management team as Director of Corporate Services at HSA since 2019. Prior to this, he also held consulting positions in the accident & emergency department and hyperbaric medicine departments since joining HSA in 2006.
“With 17 years of service committed to the HSA, I am honored to be taking on the new role of Deputy CEO of the Health Services Authority,” Dr Douglas stated.
“This past year has been monumental for the organization with the achievement of the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, facility expansion, and upgrades, and rebranding to coincide with our 20th anniversary as an Authority. I am looking forward to working alongside the CEO, Ms. Lizzette Yearwood, and the rest of the HSA team to make our organization the local healthcare provider of choice,” Dr. Douglas added.
Dr. Douglas pursued studies in medicine at the St. Petersburg Medical University in St. Petersburg, Russia, and then completed a Doctor of Medicine (Ph.D.) in Emergency Medicine at the University of the West Indies; an MBA at the University of Liverpool; three Master’s degrees in Medical Education, Healthcare Leadership and Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of South Wales; and a PG DiP in Occupational Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Recently, Dr. Douglas played an integral part in the HSA’s achievement of the prestigious Joint Commission International accreditation, which symbolizes healthcare providers’ commitment to quality and dedication to continuously improving healthcare quality and safety. Dr. Douglas also received the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour for his services to the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
