(CMR) Double-stacking of vaults has started at cemeteries in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac in an effort to save burial space.
In Parliament earlier this week Hon. Roy McTaggart, Leader of the Opposition and Member for George Town East, asked Minister of Health Sabrina Turner about the number of final resting places on all three islands as well as the utilization of the “double-stacking” process that was previously approved.
Minister Turner stated that there are currently plans for an additional 7,639 vaults to be constructed in Grand Cayman and confirmed that the process of stacking has been implemented in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.
Turner said double-stacking, which was approved in 2022, is a new practice, but people are catching on.
Meantime, on Thursday, a motion was accepted for the regulation of grave sites. The motion, which suggested a penalty for the desecration of grave sites, was moved by McKeeva Bush
