(CMR) Bryan Welcome, the man who reportedly used his vehicle to run over Omar Ryan on 8 July, pleaded not guilty to murder when he appeared in court on Friday, 21 July.
Welcome, who appeared in the Grand Court via Zoom, was remanded; however, his lawyer is expected to make a bail application pending full disclosure from the prosecution.
Trial in the matter was set for 20 November, with a case management hearing set for 21 September.
Welcome and Bryan were reportedly engaged in a verbal dispute when Welcome hit him with his vehicle before driving over his body. There are reports the disagreement may have stemmed from Welcome accusing Ryan of taking away customers as both men sold Jamaican produce. There were also reports that the incident was a result of road rage.
Several people who knew Ryan condemned the gruesome killing, stating that he did not deserve such a terrible death. He is remembered as a “sweet soul” with an infectious smile.
