(CMR) Caymanian Jazz Pitcairn, a writer on HBO's series, A Black Lady Sketch Show (ABLSS), is celebrating a major achievement after the season she wrote was nominated for an Emmy award.
The season was nominated for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards. Nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday in Los Angeles.
At 17, Pitcairn was nominated for Best Local Filmmaker at the Cayman International Film Festival and proceeded to pursue filmmaking at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She worked for several major studios like A24, HBO, and Apple TV+ before landing as a Writer on HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show (ABLSS) at just 23 years old.
This past year, she revealed herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, “Ivan.” The short film stars award-winning actress Sasha Lane (“American Honey”) and is inspired by Pitcairn's personal devastating experience during Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The film has just begun the film festival circuit and is expected to premiere in Cayman next spring.
Pitcairn enjoys writing in different genres to best serve the story at hand. She's excited to explore all of the jaw-dropping, action-packed, and hysterical ways she can tell Afro-Caribbean stories for mainstream audiences.
