(CMR) The Health Services Authority (HSA) has announced mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires and at contract renewal for its employees. This is the first Cayman organization known to have issued such a mandate to its staff. This came one day before the government confirmed that it would be seeking to mandate vaccination for work permit holders.
In an internal memo dated Tuesday, June 15 all HSA staff were informed that effective July 1 all new hires and current employees seeking contract renewals will be required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease. It noted that the measure was being taken by the organization to protect the employees, other staff and patients.
They are also ensuring that non-vaccinated staff takes the PCR test every two weeks when the border reopens.
At Wednesday's press briefing Premier Wayne Panton indicated that the PACT government was seriously contemplating making vaccination a condition of work permit renewals and grants. He noted that they had already sought legal advice and were likely to implement this measure ahead of the reopening of the country.
When pressed for how the process would work he noted that it would be like any other work permit requirement when if not met the application would be deemed to be incomplete and not processed.
