(CMR) At the age of 36, Jamaican Reggae singer Bob Marley lost his battle with cancer; however, over 40 years later, his ageless music lives on around the globe. As the world remembers a legend and continues to appreciate his work, here are some interesting facts about the “King of Reggae”.
-For a long time, Bob drove a BMW — which stood for Bob Marley and the Wailers as far as he was concerned.
-He was a professional-level soccer player. A 1977 football injury led doctors to discover a malignant melanoma in Marley's toe. They recommended amputation, but he refused for religious reasons.
-Bob survived an attempted assassination and performed a free concert for 80,000 attendees in Jamaica days after being shot.
-As a child, Bob Marley was nicknamed “White Boy.” Bob's father was a 50-year-old white British naval captain named Norval Sinclair Marley, and Bob's mom was a black country village girl named Cedella.
-As a young child, he seemed to possess the spooky ability to predict people's futures through the art of palm reading.
-Marley had a total of 11 children, although there is still speculation if there are any more due to his many affairs! Five children are Rita's, including her firstborn Sharon, who Bob adopted when he married Rita.
-In 1978, the United Nations awarded Marley a Peace Medal in recognition of his advocacy for “disenfranchised blacks around the world.”
-Bob Marley spent two years in self-imposed exile in England after being shot in Jamaica.
