Rotary Sunrise welcomes new President
It was with great pride and pleasure that The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise (Rotary Sunrise) welcomed Matthew Seales as their newly installed President, on Wednesday, August 21st, 2018. President Matthew brings an abundance of Rotary knowledge and passion for the new leadership role.
Mr. Seales joined the Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman as a Charter Member in 2006, serving on several committees, in various Director positions and becoming the club's President in 2015. After his year of Presidency, he made history in the Rotary World in 2016, becoming the first active Rotaractor to be inducted to a Rotary Club as a Rotarian, simultaneously maintaining membership in both Clubs, making him the first ‘Rotaractarian'.
Since joining Rotary Sunrise, President Matthew has served as Literacy Director and on numerous committees.
In an unconventional Changeover ceremony, Sunrise members watched as Assistant District Governor, David Kirkaldy, inducted Mr. Seales to the position. He then gave a moving and motivational address expressing great thanks for the opportunity given to him by the Club, to be their leader, for the remainder of the Rotary year. “You have inspired me to take on more, to do more, to give more, and do crazy things like stepping into Presidency 53 days into the Rotary year”, he told the Members and Guests present.
Outgoing President Jerrell Garner notified the club that he was departing on short notice to be closer to his family in Arkansas. Mr. Seales stepped into the role of President, with the support of the club’s Board of Directors. He thanked Outgoing President Jerrell for his 4 years of service to the club, the community, and youth. Mr. Garner was known for his deep passion for youth development as a director, big brother & resident Santa Claus at Rotary Sunrise Christmas Parties.
In closing, Mr. Seales said,
“Sunrise, I am ready to work, I am ready to lead, I am ready to Inspire.” He went on to remind the club, “You are the reason I am proud of Rotary, and proud to be a Rotarian and your President”.
Congratulations President Matthew, we wish you all the best on your new journey!
