(CMR) His Excellency the Governor, Martyn Roper, OBE has appointed Candia James-Malcolm as Acting Director of Public Prosecutions effective today for an initial period of three months. This announcement comes exactly two weeks after it was revealed that Patrick Moran had resigned from the position.
The decision was made after advice received from the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.
The governor shared:
“I would like to thank Mrs. James-Malcolm for accepting the appointment and stepping into this acting post. I have the utmost confidence in Mrs. James-Malcolm's leadership of the team at the Office of the DPP during this time of transition”.
She was appointed to the deputy role for the DPP's office in August. She has worked with the department since 2009 and was promoted to Senior Crown Counsel in 2017.
The Judicial and Legal Services Commission will now undertake a formal recruitment exercise for a permanent replacement.
