(CMR) Police have now confirmed the identity of the man who died in a fatal collision in North Side yesterday evening, 4 October. He is Peter Oliver Andrew Rankine “Mario Rankine” (46) of East End.
Rankine was the sole occupant of a silver Mercedes Benz vehicle that ran off the road and collided with a tree last night around 8:45 pm. The 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched police, fire and emergency personnel to a report of a single vehicle accident on North Side Road near the intersection of Frank Sound Road in North Side. A silver Mercedes Benz had run off the road and collided with a tree; the front section of the car was aflame.
Fire officers arrived and put out the car fire; Rankine was removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was in the vehicle.
Rankine is from East End and the entire community has been impacted by his untimely death. An outpouring of comments on social media have been seen with his family making a statement:
“We would like to say a huge thank you to the East End community and the wider community for their enormous support. At this time we are refraining from saying what we think may or may not have happened . We are in complete shock right now and we ask that person do respect our grieving process . We all loved Mario and we are doing our best to remember him as the person he was . Our family will never be the same but we just want to remember all that he has done for us and the influence he has been on our lives . We ask that you keep us in your prayers through this difficult time.”
We wish to express our condolences to the family.
