(CMR) The driver of a car involved in a single-vehicle collision early this morning remains in hospital in critical condition after being ejected from the car during the crash.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) reported that shortly after 2 am, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Coral Bay Village. It was reported that a silver Honda Accord was traveling west along Shamrock Road when it left the roadway and collided into the wall at Coral Bay Village, traveled several feet further, and came to a stop. The vehicle and the wall received extensive damage, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency services attended the location, and the driver was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Some persons who witnessed the accident blamed speeding for the accident, while others said the lack of road markings on that section of road currently undergoing roadwork could have contributed to the crash.
The matter is currently under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254. Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS via their Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or via their website.
