(CMR) The Governor handed over an amended Letter of Instrument to Minister Turner Tuesday morning reflecting her new responsibility for Home Affairs which was recently moved from Minister Bernie Bush. The decision to remove Bush was announced on Monday by Premier Panton and supported by the governor and deputy governor.
The Letter of Instrument is a legal document that serves as the instrument of appointment that formally assigns responsibility for the particular subject matter to the particular ministry. Ministers would have received their initial Letter of Instrument as part of the swearing in ceremony at Parliament on March 21, 2021.
CMR understands that Minister Turner is meeting with the Home Affairs ministerial staff Wednesday afternoon for a debriefing session on budget and the major strategic plan for the responsibilities that include the Cayman Islands Regiment, Fire Service, Prison Service, Public Safety Communications and the Department of Community Rehabilitation.
Their website shares that “The Ministry of Home Affairs provides residents and visitors of the Cayman Islands safety, security and customer service through innovative methods.”
Governor Martyn Roper congratulated Minister Turner on assuming this important new responsibility in addition to Health and Wellness and noted his confidence in her ability to taken on this added area of responsibility:
